Trip to the Coast

Posted by Range Officer Rhonda on August 6, 2009

Although I have a ton to say about the summer so far, tonite I am only going to mention my trip with the family to the Gulf Coast of Texas earlier this week. We left on a Saturday and spent that night sleeping on the beach. Here is a sample of what our campsite looked like, sans tent.N. Padre Island Seashore One of the great things about this beach is the fact that there are NO people around to speak of. I loved it; the boys sometimes got bored. Even though the heat here has been oppressive, sitting in the shade under my little umbrella with the Gulf breezes was extremely comfortable. This is the morning of the second day and my son is still smiling; not too seriously deprived of his contact with his friends & computer [yet], even tho’ he had a miserable nite sleeping on the sand. The next picture is just one of the two of us, son & I next to the ocean.100_0344 Not the greatest shot, but we are still smiling. Look how big that galoot is! He’s about 6 foot 2 inches now, which I don’t notice until I see a picture of us together. I have more pictures to share later, but this will do for now.  All in all, our trip to the beach was somewhat pleasant for a change. We fished, we swam, we played in the sand and we saw lots and lots and lots of beach and water! Unfortunately, the water near Corpus Christi was stained and nasty, while the water further north wasn’t so bad but had many chunks of tar floating in it from an as yet undetermined oil spill that had started to beach a couple days before our arrival.

    Hi Rhonda,

I get to do that kind of vacation every day on the other side of the Gulf and just love it, love it, love it.
