TPWD – Urban Outreach

Posted by Range Officer Rhonda on February 12, 2008

Recently, I was priviledged to present a work shop in San Antonio to the Texas Rangers on how to set up and manage an Air Rifle or small bore gun range. Besides the fact that it rained – and snowed – most of the time I was there, I like to think everyone had a good time and learned something that day. As part of their Urban Outreach program, Texas Parks and Wildlife travels to sites all over Texas to give leaders a taste of what it is like to run various programs such as Project Wild, camping, water sports, archery, shooting sports, fishing, hiking and other similar programs. My end has been, so far, to teach the gun range management portion. This involves setting up a sample gun range, trying out various methods of shooting (with REAL GUNS) and discussing where and how to get instructor training for similar type events.
